On the basis that this is a bandwidth limiting problem - is there a case for trying a shorter piece of low capacitance cable first? [Something designed for high bandwidth use rather than audio use - e.g. cable for video signals, or off the shelf cable designed for spdif]

I've found quite a difference between cheap cables in terms on bandwidth when looked at on a scope for rounding of the signal - it could be that the cable shiped with the Rotel is not too hot?

Safe, yes. I've already figured out the problem is just that the waveform is not quite as sharp as the rotel wants it. This is really simple to fix by changing the ferrite filter on the output, but there is a tradeoff between slew rate and EMI output. Therefore before I can offer a fix I have to have it tested and approved by our lab.

More details coming in a few days - you'll need to send your unit in if you need the fix. Otherwise please use the optical or analog outputs as a workaround.

By the way, I can repeat it every time---guess how? I switch an outside
light on/off... and my receiver loses the loc on the DAC signal. My SB2 and
receiver are plugged into a "brickwall" MOV or similar. The light switch is
maybe on the same circuit.

Is this thing safe?

Thanks,
Phillip

I think I am reproducing this now - going to take some time to figure out what's going on.

What happens when you do it coax only? I get the receiver to freak
out--not
only no sound but it keeps trying different decoding types (various
noise
reduction types it supports).

Granted, of all my issues, the loss of sync is the most
intermittent... and
hasn't occurred since I installed the latest firmware (SB 2
firmware
that
is).
