Something like this needs to be more thoroughly documented somewhere, especially given the current environment of nightlies being the most reliable builds. Is there a list somewhere outlining what gets clobbered during an install and what does not?
Is my original suggestion not worthy of consideration?

I'm sorry, I must have missed your suggestion... All I see from you in this thread is "The point is that it's not terribly convenient and if there was a way to make it eaiser that would be good."
