Replying to myself, I'm not sure what I thought you typed here, but it obviously was wrong. D'oh!
Either make slimserver part of your group and make your directory writeable for that group, change who your slimserver runs as to you, or move the location of your playlists to somewhere altogether different.
As noted, the directory is writeable for everyone. Being on a Mac, slimserver runs as it runs, via a preference pane in my home directory, and it's not something I can alter easily, if at all. Might be interesting to try a different playlist folder.
But I can write to the folder I've chosen using the SavePlayist plugin.
So there really shouldn't be a permissions issue.
