Some albums in the library don't play properly: each track on the "bad" album is played for about 10 seconds, then it jumps to the next track. I first noticed that some tracks in a 1000 song playlist would play briefly and skip to the next track. If I tried the same bad track again, the same thing would happen, so it is/was specific tracks. Later I figured out that whole albums were like this, either all bad or all OK. The squeezebox display is the first indicator that a track will be skipped - it immediately displays the info for the next playable track, whether it has to skip 1 or several tracks. Then 10 seconds of sound will play from the beginning of each bad track until it gets to a playable track or the end of the playlist. Someone describing a slightly similar thing suggested that re-ripping the CD would fix this. I hope this isn't the solution - the problem is affecting a large portion of my library, and I have ratings on each track for Music Match that I'd have to write down and re-enter. It would be a long, tedious task. And I dont know what is causing this, so it will likely continue to happen. And the more I look at my library, the more I find bad albums.

I've used Slimserver 5.4.0, 5.4.1, and 6.0 doesnt change to problem.

I've wiped the cache and rescanned - doesn't help.

The "bad" album tracks play fine on Music Match.

All library tracks are MP3 with ID3 tags. Once upon a time, all tracks played fine.

The library is 6900 songs, 480 albums, and 750 artists.

My setup: Squeezebox and 160 GB Ximeta Netdisk both attached to a Linksys WRT54GS router. Laptop has Windows2000 and a Linksys WPC54GS wireless notebook adapter. 256 MB ram, 900 mhz processor. The Netdisk has all of the music. I have all of the latest updates/drivers/firmware for everything.

Perhaps an unrelated non-critical issue: Over time, I noticed that the library kept increasing track numbers, even though I did not add anything to the library. The library is 6900 songs, but claimed to be 8100 songs before I wiped and rescanned. After that, it went back to the correct 6900 songs. I think (but am not 100% sure) that the # of artists and albums was always correct.

Below is a log file of "d_source" (seems like a lot of people are told to get this kind of log file - I'm not sure why) when the error occurs. The playlist was 2 tracks: one "bad" track, Hash Pipe by Weezer, followed by one playable track by the same artist on a different album. I can't tell what the log file means, but 1 line looks important:

2005-04-03 18:19:29.1976 end of file or error on socket, opening next song, (song pos: 98304(tell says: . 108544), totalbytes: 2984647)

I'd appreciate any help from anyone who knows what is causing this problem I need professional help! Most of the log file is below (I had to cut off some to be under the size limit for postings here):
