There seems to be plenty of SD competitors with products that do this. What I like about the SB is it has a big display. Many of the media network player that connect to the TV do not have any displays but have menu's on the TV. Fine if you are wanting to watch Mpegs but if you just want to play music you don't always want the TV on.
I do hope SD do a visual media player with its own screen in the future though. Maybe the SB3!
I don't want to seem to be advertising the competition (and I don't think it is actually in direct competition with current Slimdevices offerings) but you may want to consider one of these that I just bought (they go for under USD $300 or CND $400):

Here is a very supportive thread on the AVS forums with incredible participation from *the actual product manager* (very much like the relationship with Slimdevices):

I suspect Slimdevices will have trouble coming from behind on this onc and competing with the likes of Buffalo and D-link. They may be better off focusing on the audio side of things and devices with integrated displays that do not require you to fire up your TV/plasma/LCD/video projector. There is probably room for two devices; in the medium term at least. Of course in the end we will probably see massively integrated media receiver/amps that do it all from the usual suspects (JVC, Panasonic, Sony, etc.).
