they use an Hitachi hard drive, which seems to have a known problem with the read arm getting stuck to the platter. On some units, the drive will lock up on occasion and requires a reset by paper clip, or even hitting it hard. I've only run into the problem twice in 4 months of owning it, and one of those times did actually fix itself (and showed a message about a corrupt file, so I'm not sure it was really the same problem).
