I believe the artist sort order is stored in the database, which means that if you were to change settings that would alter the sort order after your database has been built (i.e. your tracks scanned) you would need to wipe the database and rebuild it to have the changes take effect. I'm really just hypthesizing though so I could be totally wrong.
