mplayer can save real streams - I'm not sure of the legality of this but the command is something like:
mplayer -vo null -cache 32 -af resample=44100:0:1 -ao pcm -aofile save.wav -playlist http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio....stream name.ram (Note: this is the syntax for mplayer 1.0pre6, it is slightly different for 1.0pre7, see the help file for more information.)
