For a terrific small amplifier, you might look into the SE9 single-ended tube amp from Norh. I have one in my office with some high-efficiency speakers from Omega, and it sounds better than anything else I've ever owned. As long as you have relatively efficient speakers the SE9 can put out plenty of volume for most applications. Their website is http://www.norh.com.
