MySQL is probably not going to be faster than SQLite -- MySQL would make sense if you had a high degree of concurrency in database usage. In this case, you don't.

It's certainly interesting to be able to use MySQL -- especially if you want to develop your own apps to use/manage the data -- but I'm pretty sure it would be a net loss in performance if it's speed you're looking for.
