Another option is to go down the digital radio route. This would need tuner hardware, but allows you to make use of EPG to record specific items - kind of like VideoPlus.
In addition, if you get the right player (currently only Trinloc produce one) and a piece of software called DABBar to stream you can integrate directly with SlimServer (http://www.multitask-computing.co.uk/dabbar.html). This is the set-up I have and it works very well.
