The problem only arises when Slimserver is running - if I exit then the machine goes back to being it's usual well-behaved self! It doesn't seem to make any difference whether the web interface is open or not, and at the Squeezebox end the music plays without interuption.
Do you use iTunes? Which task is causing the load (slim.exe or slimserver.exe)?
The only plug-ins I have going are rescan (overnight), RSS, Datetime & Save Playlist
Nothing fancy, indeed.
