The open source nature and standards based implementation is one of the
things making me lean towards the Squeezebox2 (other than price, and the
fact that the unit has a display).  I just wanted to understand exactly
what both products did before making a decision.

The suggestion on downloading the slimserver and playing with it is a
good one.  My FreeBSD box is installing the port now.
