Chris,

That ReadyNAS is a sweet looking box. The no UK distributor is the usual
kick in the groin to smart technology! I'm curious as to whether the box
itself is hackable (I'll be having a look at the "embedded OS" with a couple
of friends to see if it can be reversed -
h**p://www.infrant.com/download/RAIDiator-1.00c1-p18 although somehow doubt
it) it would be good to be able to get the slimserver actually running on
the NAS... I'm looking at a "roll your own solution" (read Shuttle case and
micro ITX) as per h**p://www.mashie.org/casemods/ or if I'm feeling lazy,
then the linkstation seems to be popular and is even available over here to
boot!

I assume you're stateside, and am jealous!

Can't hold out for much longer. I've heard talk 'bout aftershave and
sweaters...

Subject: [slim] Re: NAS Drive Running Slimserver Solution

Eagerly awaiting the website, as well. Here is what I have been looking
at:

Either the ReadyNAS or Terastation (prefer ReadyNAS) to get about 750 GB of
usefull RAID5 storage (1TB raw). Hotswap drives a plus, but not required. I
was then either going to a) hack the NAS to put in slimserver, or stand up
an external box (Soekris 4801, probably) to run slimserver.

What I am looking for, is the same, in one box. The ability to do snapshots
is a big plus, as well.

If your device will host external SATA drives, will it support RAID (hard or
soft), which RAID levels, and how many external SATA drives.

I will hold out, but only can for another week or so.

Chris
