I have been having a problem since 6.0.1 (I am on 6.0.3 now), where one
playlist doesn't start playing properly. I press Play on the web
interface or remote, and the songs queue up properly, the first one
displays, the red "play" arrow is lit, etc., but nothing actually
starts playing. To get it to play, I need to do one of the following:

1. Fast forward to the next song
2. Click on the first song in the list in the web interface
3. Press stop, then play.

I am using iTunes, but I have also tried not using itunes and I get the
same behavior with an exported version of this playlist. I normally
shuffle it by song, but the shuffle state doesn't affect the behavior.
There are 5400 songs in the playlist, but nothing else unusual about
it. All my other playlists work fine. I just tried completely
recereating the playlist from scratch, no change.

Any ideas? I don't want to file a bug if it's just me being stupid
somehow.

Perfect - that seems to have sorted it - many thanks

I think we need to clarify just a bit on the Yahoo Service Launchcast;
The subscription service allows you to download the DRM protected music
that will only work if you keep your subscription, but along with the
subscription service you can listen to their Internet Streaming music
stations called Launchcast Radio Plus. I do not see how the Launchcast
Radio Plus is any different than shoutcast, 365 that have subscription
services and free streams. Sounds like a great opportunity for a third
party developer to write a plugin!!

I have heard this sound.
sort of a two-part brip-brap "fart".

I do not own the same speakers as you do, so we can
probably rule that out.

I suspect it is a surge from a large electrical device
somewhere (A/C, elevator, ?) but I have not been
able to track it down.

I see a lot of confusion in bugzilla regarding CUE sheet processing.
I'm wondering how CUE sheet processing is intended to operate in the
most current versions of SlimServer and what bugs may still exist
(which is damned tough to tell by reading the bugzilla comments).

Is it intended that a CUE sheet that references multiple files be
parsed for tag-like info? If so, why, rather than looking only at tags
within the individual files?

If both data in internal tags and an external CUE sheet reference a
file, what happens? Obviously this is a potential source for conflicts
in the resulting data.

I'm pretty certain it's not coming from Squeezebox's audio outputs. If
it's the noise I'm thinking of, it's the 802.11 traffic being picked up
by the amplifier inside the speakers.

Try disconnecting the analog outputs and turn up the volume on the
speakers to test.

It's definitely related to wireless RF as Sean suggests. When I had
Cambridge Soundworks speakers connected to the SB2 in my bedroom, I did
not experience this problem at all. However, I did experience it on a
pair of headphones that I plugged in, leading me to believe that I had
a faulty headphone jack. About a week later I swapped the white
Cambridge Soundworks speakers with a set of black Altec Lansings (for
purely aesthetic reasons) and immediately noticed the problem with the
new speakers (which evidently are not as well-shielded as the Cambridge Soundworks speakers). I finally clued into what was causing the problem
when I switched off the SB2, causing the clock screensaver to display.
I noticed a clicking sound coming from the speakers that was in perfect
sync with the changing seconds on the clock display. Since this gets
remotely updated from the server every second, I assumed the problem
had something to do with the wireless connection. I disconnected the
external RF antenna, which caused my signal strength to go from 96% to
80%, but which also elminiated the RF interference with the
speakers/headphones.

Short answer, all of the above. I have seen requests for cue sheets to
override track metadata for singe files AND for multiple files. The
files used to be listed, along with the cue sheet data and some users
took great offense to the duplicate entries, so they were removed.
Now, as you know, there is a request to have the audio file listed as
well.

There is always a down side to being so customer driven as SlimServer:
there is always a customer who wants it to be done differently. I'm
all for picking a function and telling everyone else to just deal with
it, but I'm not in charge :)

Like many other issues, this one is looking for the miracle global
solution. if you have ideas, please feel free to bring this into the
developers forum.

I have noticed a delay between the web interface and the Squeezebox only
when first starting a playlist after powering up the computer. The web
interface shows that the song is playing but there is no sound from the speakers until about 10 to 15 seconds later. I presume it has something to do with buffering. Press "Play" and give it a little time and see if
the audio eventually starts playing.

It'd be nice to remove all cuesheet functionality altogether with a flag on the server interface, like the audio formats. Personally I'd prefer
to not have them parsed at all.

The problem with this is that some (most?) of us that use CUE sheets use them not to contain track meta data (e.g. artist, title, etc.), but rathe=
r
to mark track boundaries for single FLAC file per album.

I'm all for SlimServer ignoring meta data in the CUE sheet, but to be abl=
e
to support FLAC-per-album files, SlimServer has to be able to parse the CUE sheet for track boundaries. I see no reason to store meta data in th=
e
CUE sheet, as FLAC files already have a very flexible meta data tagging
system based on vorbis comments.

I'm also wondering about this. It's been a week now since the CEO
posted here that the Platinum SB is "now shipping!" I've yet to
receive a shipping confirmation, and my email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
inquiring about my order status has so far been completely ignored.

BTW: The Platinum cases really look great. I hope you'll find it was
worth the wait.

The product you are looking for is Salling Clicker it runs on Palm and
interfaces with the SqueezeBox thru Applescripts. I have the Palm
LifeDrive with Salling Clicker and now my mac is fully remote in terms
of media - iPhoto; iDVD, iTunes, SqueezeBox/ SlimServer--all on one
device it's totally the answer to my dreams.

It's not a buffering issue. It only happens with the one playlist, and
it never starts playing- I've left it for hours.

Can I urge people to take in consideration voting for the following
enhancement request: http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1368
?

I'm surprised that, given the capabilities of SB2, this is not already
implemented... :(

does it contain relative paths?
does it contain references to files that no longer exist?

I am having problems with accented characters in SlimServer when using
MusicMagic Mixer. The file names and tags show up properly in
MusicMagic Mixer but become garbled in SlimServer if they contain
accented characters. I can select the garbled files in SlimServer but
they will not play. Any suggestions? Should I file a bug report? I am
running SlimServer 6.0.2, MusicMagic Mixer 1.1.5.1 on Mac OS X 10.4.1.
Thanks!

Its a known issue which has had some attempts to fix:
Try 6.1 nightly builds, wipe cache, and let us know.

-kdf

Ok then, vote for both. I have done so. :)

I figured out my problem. It turned out the flakey component was the
one behind the keyboard. I had misconfigured the slimserver security
settings such that the squeezebox was not allowed to contact the
server. On top of that I misread the slimserver debug log file on the
first pass. The slim devices tech support folks got me on the right
track.

Yes! That did it! Thank you kdf, you are a gentleman and a scholar. I
will report if anything else comes up with this build. Now I can use
MusicMagic Mixer as my FLAC file manager on Mac OS X in addition to
MusicMagic mixing all of my tunes! How close is 6.1 becoming final?
Thanks again, Steven

Thank Dan. They were his fixes. There is no date for 6.1, and I get the impression that there won't really be any fixed date. However, there is =
a lot
of activity on the buglist, sorting out which ones should be tackled for =
6.1,
and very little work is going into patching 6.0.3. Currently there are 7=
9 bugs
marked for 6.1. That usually means it is getting close, at least intende=

be.

Is there any chance that the SlimDevices staff on these forums could be
given a special status to indicate that they work for the company?
Whilst some people have things like SlimDevices CTO displayed clearly,
others have nothing at all. Patrick showed up earlier as a Junior
Member. Surely it would be better to make it clear when someone is
posting that they really do know what they are talking about.
Currently, those in the know know who they're dealing with, whilst
newcomers have no idea.

Can someone describe if there is a way to play all songs designated as
"favorites" (slimserver 6.1) as a playlist? I can only figure out how to access each individual song via the plugins--favorites-- menu on the
squeezebox.

Appreciated.
