i want to install slimserver on my laptop, problem is my files are on
the file server on 2 diff drives, and i cant point to more then 1
drive. is there a way to add more then 1 source folder/drive. i know
that if the server is running on that machine (as it is now) then i
just need to make a shortcut file, but that doesnt work when pointing
to a mounted drive. if there is no way to do this would it be possible
for multipul sources option be added to the server so u could point to
any # of machines/drives.
Point the Music directory at a local directory on the laptop, which can
be empty. Into that local directory, place shortcuts to the shares on
the file server.
Then cross your fingers. :-)
I just gave this a try in my Windows 2000 system and was unable to
navigate into a shared network directory using the SlimServer interface.
I mapped the network directory to a drive letter and added a shortcut
for it to my music directory. When browsing the music folder through the
SlimServer interface I am able to see the shortcut, but when I click the
link the server treats it as a file rather than a directory and displays
the Song Info page. With all other locally mounted directory shortcuts,
the server simply traverses into them.
It seems as though the treatment of network mounted drives by the server
is somewhat different from locally mounted ones. Is there something that
needs to be done to access music directories over the network?
