Also, take a look at bug 1508 (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1508). It relates to a problem that sounds similar to the one initially described in this thread ("constant pops and static over the top of the music"), but isn't specific to 24-bit 48KHz files. If the symptoms are indeed the same, I'd be very curious to see a sample file and look for similarities between the two FLAC files.
