You do not indicate which version of SC you are on. I upgraded to 7.1 a while back and expected an upgrade to the controller but nothing happened, so (like you) I went into setup / advanced and tried to select it manually. Like many others who have tried, it sits there and comes back with a failed message. But tonight, even though I have not upgraded my server software, it prompted me to upgrade to 7.1 r2722, and if I go into manual update again, it correctly identifies the latest release (instead of the '?.' that was displayed before.)
