I can certainly understand the desire for and the benefits of a NAS/Linux box, albeit on a very rudimentary level. But the vast majority of computer users are not tech savvy (myself included) and have no interest in becoming programmers or doing text editing, scripting, etc... I'd bet you, your folks and inlaws were somewhat tech savvy to begin with, prior to messing with Linux. I and many millions more may be WAY over complicating the use of Linux, but it is downright scary to even think of attempting such computer/software stuff. This is why MS (as glitchy as it is) is the preferred OS for us techno-morons. For the most part, with very minor hiccups, we can buy a computer with XP, turn it on, utilize it, add programs (like SC), almost everything under the sun is compatible with it, and it functions well without getting into registry entries and scripting. Again, I'm not arguing with your desires for Linux and I admire your knowledge of such varying programs. It's just not for us "plug-n-play" non-technical types. I did a quick search online to see Linux market share info, quite interesting. I'd bet the Linux less than 1% market share is mostly due to the learning curve that most of us 90% Windows users would have nightmares over (warranted or not): Windows = 90.66% Mac = 7.86% Linux = 0.93% Source: http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=8 -- toby10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52592 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
