I agree (strongly) that this needs to be fixed. But please don't introduce more controversy by (talking about) doing something involving automatically issuing a WOL packet when the SB powers on. If I want my server to wake up, I'll tell it myself thanks, and using the Power button on the remote is a fine way to do that (so good in fact that I often use the SB remote to wake my server, even for non-music related purposes).
And when my SB is powered on (ie power applied), I want it to do something sensible like look for a SC server, tell me the outcome, and then shut up and sit down quietly until I give it a command. I can understand wanting to be able to repeat the "look for a SC server, tell me the outcome" process for debugging network problems etc, but please don't assume I want that to happen automatically every time the SB gets power. Surely a button press on the remote is appropriate for this?
