Thanks! In process of figuring this all out, I discovered that there are IR amps, and that IR emitters come in "bug" (direct contact with controlled eqpt's IR "in"), "wide area" (also called "cabinet flood"), and "blaster" - as well as the "normal" ones (no modifier). Some come in both low-power and high-power. The "blaster" type comes either as something that'll fit in a j-box or as a shelf-top unit. Details about these last two are really scanty, except that they're hard wired.
