This is actually how I'm working around the problem currently, thanks
anyway (sincerely appreciate your explanations). Unfortunately this
method is painful for 2 reasons - one because the files have long names
that are often awkward to differentiate, and secondly because it's not
instantly apparent which file is the CUE and which is the MP3 (the
provided filenames bodies are identical) - so it's necessary to examine
the characteristics of each file to determine which is the CUE and which
is the MP3.

However I'm convinced there's got to be a simpler way than this. A year
ago when battling with this (on a previous server installation) I read
somewhere that physically putting the CUE files themselves in the
'Playlists Folder' was an option, the downside being that each CUE file
needed editing by amending the path to the audio file, since the CUE was
now split up from its MP3 file pairing, ie. in a different folder
location (and volume). I may be mistaken but... subsequent to me
experimenting with that workaround, I noticed that, bizarrely, new
additions were appearing in Playlists without me doing this CUE jiggery
for those new files, but this was happening inconsistently!
