Do you see any errors in the system or application event logs?

Do you see any processes listening on port 9000? (run "netstat -avno"
from a command line, and look for a local address ending in ":9000") If
so, you could check the PID for that line against a task manager
(although you'll have to display the PIDs in task manager first) and
make sure it is actually the SC process. I can't imagine anything else
listening on 9000, but you never know...

Are you running SC as a service, or manually launching it? If as a
service, what user is the service set to run as?

I should point out that I've never even tried to install SC on
Vista...I'm just trying to think of things that have caused
installation/operation failures in the past with other applications...

My SB3 is the most expensive part of my stereo. So I'm not going to brag
about it.
And my SBB as well...Is it wrong that my alarm clock is worth more than
most of my stereo components? I need to work on that.
