It is free to download any time you wish and try the webstart for yourself. As a bug reporter, the burden is as much on you to try more recent updates and comment if the problem is gone, or you are happy with a different solution (there are over 300 targetted resports to keep the current developers busy). The tip I gave you works in SC7.* and SS6.x.x and all versions going back to the first time Softsqueeze came in with the launch page. It's not the applet version, but it IS a pre-configured launch. As for resolving that bug, my feeling is that the proper resolution is "works for me" - the interface links to the webstart page and it is webstart that is expected to work. Second point, SS is deprecated. There has been no ongoing work for a very long time aside from a recent update for a boom skin and some updated signing certs.
