SlimServer doesn't 'talk' to iTunes at all, it just reads
the iTunes xml library file.
Sounds like it could be a simple permissions problem - does
your SlimServer user have access to the iTunes library XML
file?
I'd
enable the d_itunes logging and retry these steps to see what is
logged.
