The PSP is cool, but it's also a closed platform. Typical Sony. Their business model relies on selling software (movies and games) for the device, which means they'll probably never open it up. Which is cool if you like what you get out of the box, but bad for those who like to make, hack and extend.
On the other hand, the 770 has Nokia design polish all over it and yet is Free Software through and through. Wide open and ready for mods. Units are in the hands of quite a few chosen developers, who are already quite busy with it.
