AFAIK all modern switches as well as all modern laptops are auto-sensing, so you can use either crossed or straight cables. Both types will work. Only one side of the connection needs to be auto-sensing. I believe the Squeezebox Receiver is auto-sensing as well, just a bit harder to use as a bridge.
