I didn’t have time to check on the latest nightly, but I’d vote strongly -for keeping the aspect ratio-.
I’ve been using 160x160 px, 72 dpi images inside the files forever and a day since they need to go on a web page and don’t generate too much overhead in the files (usually 10-15 KB). And it’s so easy generating some white space or transparent background if the image won’t fit.
