FIGURED IT OUT! Currently running the latest 7.4 build without problems.
Somewhat by accident, I discovered that I had to deselect front panel buttons in the Player/Remote menu within Squeezecenter. With it selected, most of the Transporter remote control buttons do not work. That is why it was stuck on "Now Playing"/Nothing because the arrow keys were nonfunctional, or not recognized by Squeezecenter. This is definitely some type of bug, as I can consistently reproduce it with all builds including and since 7.2. And it is not present in 7.1 and earlier builds. So remote handling must have been changed from 7.1 > 7.2 causing the bug. Another bug I noticed on old builds when trying to revert to 6.5.4 and 7.0.1 -- there is no decodable digital output on AES/EBU whether it or S/PDIF is selected in the player/audio menu. This bug is not present on 7.1 and later builds.
