I don't use iTunes but from other threads I have read, your analysis is
spot on.  I believe the solution is to either set up iTunes to store
the .xml file on the ReadyNAS rather than the Mac, or to make an
autocopy of the .xml file on the ReadyNAS.  

If you do a search of the forums for something like playlist and .xml
that may give you some more help.
