I regret that I'm not writing to offer a solution... just to say that you are not alone.
I have the same problem with last.fm and deezer, I can even get the song title that should be playing including the album art but "Problem: Can't connect to server for.." pops up and no sound. I can get last.fm perfectly well through the last.fm site or through their s/w player on my PC.
