Macs will read and write FAT32 drives. Out of the box they will IIRC read NTFS formatted drives but not write to them.
There are at least two third-party solutions that enable them to write to NTFS drives also. MacFuse and NTFS-3G together provide an open-source free solution. Paragon Software (who do well-regarded PC software for various things about drives) have their own solution.
