You can do this now, however it would require another machine on the Squeezebox side to act as a proxy. Have that machine create an ssh tunnel to your SqueezeCenter server. Then have your Squeezebox connect to the machine with the tunnel. Yes it requires an extra box, however keep in mind very few people have a need for this because most users have the Squeezebox and SqueezeCenter on the same LAN where this is not needed.
