But your question raises a serious issue with me.
The analysis of a package by the number of features lead directly to
reviewers using checklists to compare. So WordStar had feature X and
XYwrite didn't, and the review flowed to perfer WordStar. Exact same
thing happened to most commercial software, when Oracle added this, it
won, then Ingress added it.

In a few years, we had WordPerfect winning everything. And it did a huge
amount of stuff, amazing really. So to create a market for Windows,
Microsoft wrote Word, having every feature that WordPerfect had, and
then some.

These days, Word is a huge program will probably a million (literally)
features. No one uses all of it, and most folks have no clue how to use
even 20% of it. But it needs a 3gHz processor with 2GB of RAM to run
properly.

Feature bloat is dangerous. Nothing good comes from it.
