It doesn't have to a Netgear ReadyNAS, but it can't be "any NAS"
either. You have to be able to install the SqueezeCenter (SC) software,
which requires root shell access or an installer from a third party. SC
can run on a wide range of NASs, with an equally wide range of
ease/difficulty installing it. And some NASs are simply locked down too
tightly to permit installation of SC software. 

Also, be sure the NAS has adequate RAM (128MB is an absolute minimum)
and processor. I have run SC on a Buffalo LinkStation HG (128MB and
266MHz PowerPC processor) and a LinkStation Pro (128MB and 400MHz ARM
processor). Installation was somewhat challenging. The streaming was
excellent, but the SC web interface was rather slow, as was scanning
the music library.
