I wrote about this earlier in the week, but received no responses. I looked at my message and realized I wasn't very clear, so I will try again.
My music is all on a server in the basement along with Slimserver. So I create my playlists from files located on network drives and the files are identified differently in the .m3u file than when slimserver does its livrary scan. For instance slimserver identifies a file this way: M:\My Music\Eva Cassidy\Imagine\05 - Imagine - Eva Cassidy - Imagine.mp3 While the exact same file is listed this way in the .m3u playlist: \\Media-server\music (m)\My Music\Eva Cassidy\Imagine\05 - Imagine - Eva Cassidy - Imagine.mp3 Here is a second example from another drive pointed to by a shortcut. The library scan gives: \\MEDIA-SERVER\My Music 2\Alison Brown\Stolen Moments\Alison Brown - Homeward Bound.flac While the playlist has the following: \\Media-server\MUSIC 2 (N)\My Music 2\Alison Brown\Stolen Moments\Alison Brown - Homeward Bound.flac This results in multiple entires in the library for the same file -- Both those listings now appear in the library when I browse by album or artist. I suppose I could edit my .m3u files with a few global search and replaces, but that is a pain and as my library gets bigger and requires more drives, then the number of replaces would increase. However, I'm not entirely sure what value there is in having songs from playlists added to the library -- I view playlists as lists of songs that are already in the library. The library gets propogated by scanning the media. Adding the entries from the playlists is redundant. However, maybe this has some value that I do not see. If this is a feature people need, could an option to not add playlist entries to the library be added to settings? Or could it be made smart enough to recognize that two entries are pointing to the same file?
