Thanks, I had a look. There are indeed major developments afoot, and definitely not something I want to be an early adopter of.
There are already a scary number of posts about minor new versions along the lines of "since installing 7.x.y music sounds worse/server keeps rebooting/toaster caught fire/wife left me" kind of thing.
