Some more details would be helpful. Is the Boom connected to your local SqueezeCenter, or connected to SqueezeNetwork? What kind of security do you have on your home network? Are you sure that the Boom isn't responding to stray remote commands (eg, sometimes the remote for another device can affect a Squeezebox)? Does the "phantom" have good musical taste?
If you are connected to your local SC you might be able to find out something by turning up the logging level in Settings > Advanced > Logging.
