I know this isn't quite what you're after, but I thought it was interesting anyway. I was walking past Brookstone yesterday (I wouldn't normally take any notice as everything they sell is basically junk) but they had one of these playing on a table outside the store:
http://tinyurl.com/dy9ul (apologies for long link) Anyway - it sounded pretty damn good, and looked very "outdoor proof". It's wireless, but not in the same sense as the SB. You hook the little transmitter up to your indoor hifi and whatever you play on it is piped outdoors.
