the server will try to play a file with no conversion at all, ideally. if the input format doesn't match any natively supported type or if the "built-in" option has been disabled in file types, then it will look for a conversion in order of preference. For SB this is FLAC, WAV, MP3. SB1 is WAV then MP3 and slimp3 plays mp3 only. the first enabled conversion is used, seemlessly.

You can check a song's file type from the songinfo page of the web UI, or the trackInfo mode in the player (press RIGHT from the track display). Native file types will always play native if they are enabled. there is no display, aside from the check boxes in server settings->file types.

If your player is set for bitrate limiting, then all output is forced to mp3 at the specified bitrate. The trackinfo will show the converted rate (as "converted to xxx") in trackInfo, and the Now Playing section of the web interface will also show this.

The SB2 supports native FLAC decoding. I think that is configurable at
Server Settings -> File Types. A couple of questions:

1. If both “FLAC decoding at Server” and “built-in FLAC decoding” are
checked, which one takes precedence?

2. Is there an easy visual indicator to tell whether SB2 is decoding
FLAC natively vs a server-transcode?
