I implemented Favorites, Plugins/Radios and Playlists. Music folders I haven't looked into yet. What's the concept ?
When I listen to music I usually access it via artist. To me artist == genre much more than a genre could ever qualify for specific kind of music. And yes, you're right. Large collection are inconvenient. You cannot compare browsing on a small and slow device without a mouse to a full screen browser that maintains a local database, which BTW takes minutes to hours to build. SlimControl maintains a copy off all genres/albums/artists in memory. The inital loading does take long for 2000+ artists/genres/albums - I know. Given that many of you do have collections much larger than mine, I am actually think about storing a refined image of the SC collection on the PDA/smartphone. I deliberatly created this search hierarchy which will in most cases yield server responses within less than a second. (How many albums can there be for a given artist - 20 ?) Genre queries might be the slowest. I don't know - how long does it usually take to collect e.g. all atists of a given genre (for you) ? SlimControl is probably a nightmare for people who don't bother fixing the mp3-tags. Thanks for the feedback and do let me know how you're using your music folders.
