Not sure if this will work with Slimdevice or not but here is a story on

Internet radio is already available without a local server running. Look into the SqueezeNetwork option for the SB2.

The Maxtor device looks like a NAS file storage box which addtionally supports the UPnP server functions. So it can act as a rudimentary server to media integration devices which can use the UPnP protocol (SB2 cannot). This device would be useful as a storage server to a machine running SlimServer.

Other, similar devices are available that support the SB2 player. One is the Infrant ReadyNAS which is a NAS/RAID device capable of running the SlimServer software. This is a vendor supported function, which is to say that there won't be any warranty-ending or technically challenging hacks required for it to work.

Using the ReadyNAS as the SlimServer host would allow SB2 playback from the local library without the need for any other server machine to be running.
