The music industry wouldn't be chasing these crumbs so vigorously if their business model hadn't imploded. It's in everyone's interest for that to get fixed somehow. What's there now isn't healthy for anyone concerned, musicians or fans.
And the web sites wouldn't be fighting so hard about royalties if they had any revenue to speak of. Some are just fighting to postpone ultimate oblivion. Your business benefits from them being successful, many customers buy your products because of the availability of internet music.
