ADDENDUM: this sucks - the drifting effect i described in my first post is also still there.
but once again, it seems that this only happens on vorbis files. when an MP3 comes along in the playlist, the players sync up perfectly. then, after 2-3 subsequent vorbis tracks, it starts drifting once more.
