Did the firmware update get trough eventually ? They have done massive changes over the last month. The time to get the hardware manufactured (in a sweat chop in the far east I assume )and delivered to your doorstep it must have taken some months. I wild guess is that the delivered firmware is very dysfunctional and it needs it update.
Normally this can be done via the SD card, if the online download failed.
