The SB2/3 does 24bit 48kHz any recent squeezecenter for example 7.3.3 would downsample on the fly to a proper format for your player.
I would buy the hirez. Beware if your using a NAS box it might not have the horsepower to trans-code, that is easily fixed by a zillion of apps for your PC making 24/44.1 copies . Untill you gaet that fancy touch or transporter.
