I'm clearly in the minority, but... No big deal to me.
I don't use the main page entry anymore, so I won't see it. I usually browse with audio off (so I don't have to suffer through thousands of lame-o Flash intros, wailing rawk themes, and such) so I wasn't particularly jarred by it. As soon as the dialog popped up I clicked go away. End of story. I think it's a bit dumb, but I can see how a lot of mainstream folks might think it's 'cute' or 'memorable' (the first time anyway) and that's what Marketing likes, after all.
