The default wallpaper and text on new SBC ui does have much less contrast. I find it helps to change the wallpaper to a lighter/brighter color, and most of the standard choices available now are either too dark or too hideously busy. I recommend the Customize Controller plugin as a very easy way to change your SBC wallpaper. Several users have posted their brighter wallpapers in the forums -- just search on "wallpaper" and you'll find them.
