For anyone who is interested, I have upgraded from 7.2 to Squeezebox Server 7.4 on my (hacked) AppleTV.
I take zero credit for this, everything is here in Scott Gruby's excellent blog "http://blog.gruby.com/2007/11/25/installing-slimserver-on-an-appletv/"; The only changes are in the directory structures in step 8, where Scott copies "Install Files/SlimServer.prefPane/Resources/server" to the Desktop. This changes to "Install Files/Squeezebox.prefPane/server" Apart from that everything works fine. The AppleTV really is a very sound alternative platform and if I was smart enough I would build an install package for the aTV (hint...).
