My experience has shown that ripping is not affected by CPU speed, but by the speed and capabilities of the drive. If you are encoding and ripping at the same time, then CPU speed comes into play. With my setup, the fact that it is a dual core processor makes a big difference because dbPowerAmp will rip on one core and encode on another, so you basically rip in paralell to the encoding. It's very efficient, even over the network. EAC uses the approach of putting the encoding tasks in a background queue as ripping is happening. So, it may be encoding a disc from 15 min. ago while you rip a current one. This approach works too and can help overcome limitations of a slow CPU. It just means that you have to leave the machine up after you are done ripping because odds are it will have a lot of backlog encoding to clear out from the queue. -- maggior Rich --------- Setup: 2 SB3s, 3 Booms, 1 duet, 1 receiver.
